The University of the Cumberlands is pleased to announce the 2010 Cumberland Drum Camp which is scheduled for Saturday June 12th, from 9:00am - 5:30pm.
This FUN one-day camp is designed to help prepare percussionists for the up-coming marching season and will focus on style, technique, discipline and musicality. Students will go through the process of learning how to become disciplined rudimental drummers with former marching members of the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps. Featured clinicians James Corcoran, David Ratliff, John Willmarth and Eric Sokolowski are each experienced percussion performers, clinicians, and teachers and will help your percussionist learn the ropes of a marching drumline. In addition, the camp instructors also include current and former marching members of the UC Drumline, which means that each student gets a lot of personal attention.
The Cumberland Drum Camp is designed to help High School Marching Band Students (yes, even middle school students who will be marching in the high school band) develop leadership skills that they can take back to their own drumlines. The students will be given a HUGE packet of technique exercises and cadences that will help them throughout their drumming careers. Some bands send only one or two drummers, others send the whole drumline and/or front ensemble (pit), but in every case, the students and directors have spoken very highly about the camp. We try our best to make it educational and fun for the students.
Please visit http://www.ucumberlands.edu/drumline/drumcamp.php for more information. Also, you will find the Brochure, Registration Form and Medical Liability Waiver for the Cumberland Drum Camp on that site. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. T-shirts will be available again this year, and lunch is included in the cost of the camp.
Please e-mail or call Jim Corcoran if you need the attachments to be sent to you. Thank you for considering the Cumberland Drum Camp.

“I had 18 hours of classes including marching band, homework almost every night, but still found time to get a 4.0, have a great time, and make a group of friends that will last throughout my college experience and to wherever my life leads after that.”

Dear Directors,
I hope you will encourage your French horn students to participate in this “first annual” workshop geared just for French horn players. It will run concurrently with the Trumpet Workshop but will be separate except for the final concert.
I am inviting both middle- and high-school Horn students. I am creating master classes at various levels of achievement, lecture demonstrations, group lessons, question/answer sessions, and the like. All the students will have opportunities to participate in the final recital through solo, ensemble, or both kinds of performances.
Topics to be covered include:
- Fundamental approaches to horn performance
- Warm-up and practice sessions
- Improving range and endurance
- Listening skills
- Solo and orchestra repertoire
- Embouchure development
- Horn ensemble experience
For more information, please contact me for flyers with the registration form in them. Thank you for sharing this opportunity with all of your Horn students.
