Question: How are the bands classified
now? When I was in band from 93 to 97 it was based on how many are
on the field.
Answer: Bands competing in KMEA are now
classified by school size. This change went into effect at the
beginning of the 2004 season.
The classification of bands is determined by the
schools average enrollment in grades 9 - 12 from the previous two
years as submitted by the director and principal. Bands are divided
into 5 equal groups.
Class A - smallest 20% by school enrollment
Class AA - next to smallest 20%
Class AAA - middle 20%
Class AAAA - second largest 20%
Class AAAAA - largest 20% by school enrollment
